   i guess you are really close and of course your journalism degree will be valued.
   A huge part of any advertising/marketing agency is the copywriting, which is the editing and composing of the messages, what words should be used as a message with any Ad to attract more customers….
   So …go for it, start searching for Copywriting jobs right now; and Good luck.

   I was in the same predictament 15 yrs ago. You need to either pay your dues at a big agency for 4 or 5 years as an ad assistant or start at a small paper where people often have to pitch in to meet deadline. I would also start a portfolio. Design some ads for products you see around the house. Anyone in advertising will want to see a portfolio. very visual people
