Is it difficult to handle multiple accounts? Are these legitimate companies in general?

I am wondering if this a good place for me to start in order to gain the management experience they are offering with the jobs they advertise.

Instead of a sales firm, I would recommend working for a sales organization (a sales team within a company offering a product or service, such as software). As a sales person, I can tell you that sales is a terrific field, if you work for the right company. A good company will pay you very well, give you flexibility to manage your accounts and understand that not everything is within your control. A bad company will not pay you well, lie, micromanage you and treat you like a drone (there is no way to tell what way a company will be unless you do your homework by speaking to employees of the company in advance, or have been there for some time). Sales is a job where you usually change companies often, since products change and sometimes it takes trying a few companies before you find the right fit for you.

Regarding quantity of accounts, the true answer is, it depends. If you sell a complex product, you’ll only need a couple of large accounts. If you are organized and hard working and sell a commodity, you can manage several dozen accounts or more. Regardless, the key is organization (keeping a good calendar, keeping track of commitments), prioritization (knowing where to spend your time and what to focus on, since there is not time for everything) and commitment (it can be a demanding and up-and-down job).

Is sales a way to move into management? Definitely. Successful sales people who work well with people often are provided numerous opportunities to move up the chain. The bottom line is sales is a great opportunity to make a terrific amount of money, whether or not you’re in management. Good luck!

I’m now looking into designing some tools photographers can use to help market their work. Bringing customers to photographers, proofing tools online and etc. Just want to know how much interest there is and see if anyone has some ideas to help. There are already multiple sites on the internet that help provide photographers with online tools.

collages.net and ourphotoevent.com are two of the biggest online sites in the photography business to help us out. They offer a wide variety of tools such as online proofing, online ordering, online CD creation, mailing lists, event tracking lists and much more.

So, if you are to create an online site, you are going to have an extremly tough time breaking into a business where the product has been pretty much perfected at a very reasonable price.

The thing is that people really want a solution to their problem – whatever that may be – pain, stress, injury – you have to show them that you have that solution. People want to know if you can help them so you have to appeal to what their problem is.

It also depends on what method of marketing you are using. You can do much more with a website because people will find you by searching for ‘massage, your city’ and are already looking for massage.

If you are doing mailings to random populations it will be hit or miss. If you are doing targeted marketing to special groups or populations you have a much better chance of being able to get to what really appeals to them – like athletes want to run faster, corporate people want less stress, increased concentration and to feel better, people who are injured want less pain.

Just having a low rate usually only gets people who want discounted massages. You want people who value massage and will be willing to pay you the amount you need to make a decent living so you don’t feel resentful. If you do an introductory rate – be sure to get people’s addresses and emails so you can do follow up educating with them. You should also have a package to hand them or flyer with info on why getting regular massage is a necessity.

You could try some black enamel paint, like that used on plastic models from a hobby store. Simply cover it up.

Black electrical tape is also used by some; others use a black sharpie.

Just about anything that could chemically remove the paint/decal would probably damage your plastic exterior of your camera too.
