what is the difference between branding and a logo?

a logo is a corporate identity or commercial symbol… is branding just another word for it or is it a larger discipline?

Branding incorporates a much broader spectrum and refers to marketing position, logo, identity, culture, etc.

Branding means the way a company markets themselves or how they represent their ‘Brand’ name. A logo is the actual character, picture or words that a company uses to identify themselves, like the big M for McDonalds

Logo is the pictoral representation of the company whereas, branding is reputation of the company which takes years to build up. Think of this you can draw a logo within few minutes but for branding you would need time.
