   Thats called pay-per-click marketing(PPC). If your site was to get tens of millions of hits per month,trust me that would not go unoticed. People would contact you becase companies are always trying to bring more traffic to their website. Now, the best thing i say for you to do would be to make your site a pay-per-click site where as when somebody clicks on your site, you get paid for it everytime. If you want to find out to get started in that just google it. I have a website that im in the process of getting setup that i start it 2 weeks ago. Its still in the process of getting setup.    Unfortunately banner sales aren’t as effective as they once were. They way I make my living on the web is using a squeeze page. Think about it… do you think you’d make more money off of banner commissions or by using an autoresponder that captures every visitors email address, whether they buy something or not. This way you have them for future promotions. Then if you don’t have a product you get involved in affiliate marketing. That’s where people are basically paying you commissions to make sales for them! If you’d like a link to an autoresponder, here you go:

   You can start out with the most passive approach, Google Ads. As your traffic grows, you could join an ad network (which aggregates the audience of several sites and feeds the ads to them centrally and are all the rage now) or employ a sales rep to do much the same thing. Double Click is an example of an ad network. In this model, the network handles the sales and ad serving. If you do have tens of millions of page views a month you should be employing your own sales staff to sell your advertising inventory and maximize its monetary value. You can outsource the implementation, management and monitoring of the campaigns or do it yourself. Remember that once you are operating a full-blown ad supported site, your advertisers will expect the delivery and reporting to show them that their ad dollars are being well spent as well as geo- and demographic targeting abilities. You can charge more the better you can target you audience to the one the advertiser wants to reach. And not all audiences have equal value. Specialist sites can get up to $100 for every 1,000 page views (‘$100 CPM"). Most CPMs are in single figures, however. One other thing to consider: are you offering direct response advertising or brand advertising; i.e. will you be paid for having the ad clicked on, or just seen.

   Affiliate marketing. You apply to the merchant and get approved. The merchant provides you with links to add to your site – text, banners, search boxes and now video ads. Some (indies) manage their own program or you can find them at affiliate networks like cj.com, performics.com, sharasale.com, linkshare.com. The links are coded with your tracking ID so that you get commissions for purchases made by referred customers.

   The best place to learn about affiliate marketing is abestweb.com which is a huge forum for affiliate marketers and merchants.

   I’ve been doing it part time since ‘99 and have made thousands/month with about 500 merchants with an online shopping mall site. It takes time, patience and persistance but it’s so rewarding to go to the mailbox to see how many paychecks are waiting for me.
